The Educational Network for West and Central Africa (ERNWACA) proceeded July 16, 2009 in Abidjan, Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, to the formal launching ceremony of the Journal of Educational Research in Africa « JERA » under the active patronage of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Ibrahim Cissé.
The coming out of « JERA» marks the concretisation of a dream made by the pioneers of ERNWACA in 1987.

Representatives of CODESRIA, Prof. Bernard Lututala Mupassi and of African Union, Dr. Mohamed Chérif Diarra, three former Regional Coordinators of ERWACA including the first for the Anglophone countries, Prof. Dominic K. Agyemang, the Director of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the President of the Board of Directors, Prof. Ousmane Gueye, the Regional Coordinator, Prof. Dr. Djénéba Traoré, the President of the Regional Scientific Committee, Prof. Therese Tchombe, the National Coordinator of ERNWACA-Côte d’Ivoire, Dr. François Joseph Azoh, the Director of the School of Education (ENS), Prof. Tapé Gozé, the Director of the Technical and Professional Training Institute, as well as members of ERNWACA-RCI and many invited guests took part to this historic event of the network.
In his speech the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research emphasized the relevant role of research for the economic and social development and assured his total availability to support ERNWACA and promote the scientific publication in Africa.
« JERA » is sponsored by the Swedish Development Cooperation Agency (Swedish SIDA) via the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA). Prof. Mbangwana Moses, PanAf Project Manager at ERNWACA Regional Coordination coordinated the publication process of « JERA » to its term with the collaboration of Dr. François Joseph Azoh.
This first coming out of JERA was edited and printed by the « Presses Universitaires » of the University of Cocody in Abidjan.
The first edition of « JERA » takes place as ERNWACA gets ready to celebrate on November 26-27-28, 2009 its twenty years of existence with the organization of an International Colloquium on « The educational Research on policy and practices in Africa ».
Founded on February 12, 1989 in Freetown in Sierra Leone, ERNWACA contributes since its creation to implement a real culture of research within the member countries and to give the world access to the works of African researcher works with the support of its partners, notably the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Ottawa, the Dutch Foreign Ministry, the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), Swedish SIDA, ADEA, African Union, the Swiss Cooperation (DDC), the USAID, PLAN International, UNESCO, UNICEF, NORRAG, the University of Montreal etc.…
In the framework of the launching of « JERA », a scientific writing workshop for publication was held on July 15 and 16 in Abidjan, to which authors whose papers have been selected for the second edition of « JERA », slated for November 2009, took place.
The talented choir of the School of Education (ENS) Abidjan performed during the launching ceremony with an impressive index of Gospel songs.
A special motion of acknowledgment has been addressed to ERNWACA-Côte d’Ivoire by the Regional Coordination for the excellent organisation of the meeting.
