Africa needs software to make ICT accessible to all

The time had now come for Africa to produce open software in its major local languages to make ICT accessible to all. John Schoneboon, ICT project associate at the partnership for higher education in Africa of the US, said it would help push Africa forward on the information technology highway.

Google to map African data

Google has developed applications to map educational statistics and natural resources in Africa for the benefit of the public and organizations providing basic services.
A pilot project in East Africa replicates a similar project established in India, measuring achievement in education, said Aleem Walji, a global development officer at Google.org.

Officials from the Ministry of Education are aware of the importance of integration of information and communication technologies (ICT)s in various stages of education. Alcatel-Lucent promotes Moroccan education through ICTs

The Ministry of National Education, Higher Education, Executives training and Scientific Research of Morocco (MENESFCRS) and Alcatel-Lucent signed a co-operation agreement for a new educational program entitled, “Dynamic Knowledge for Education”.
Promoting innovation, and the use of new information and communications technologies in education, this agreement aims to make Alcatel-Lucent collaboration platforms available to a large number of Moroccan universities and schools free of charge. (...)

Report of ACACIA Gender Awareness Workshop

The purpose of the workshop was to “craft” a gender checklist for the development and appraisal of ACACIA projects. The methodology involved evaluating the participant’s projects to find the extent to which gender has been integrated. The checklist was used as a guide.
